Del Mar or BUST

This weekend my sister, my niece and myself are headed down to Del Mar, CA for the weekend Scrap Expo.  We call it the scrapfest because it is a 32 hour opportunity to craft our hearts out. 

We arrive thursday night, grab some dinner and hit the hay.  BECAUSE we have to be up very early on Friday to get in line for our GOLDEN TICKET, which is hard to get in the first place.  Then we wait in line with approx 150 other scrappers. 

The scrapping part begins at 8am and ends at 12pm.  Our CHA class was cancelled which of course opens up the shopping floor.  From this point we can scrap and shop from 9am until 9pm.  Then after 9pm some vendors bring their wares into the scrap room and sell them for much, much less than they do on the floor. 

Saturday all three of us are going to take a class on embossing.  It isn't as if we dont know how to, but a refresher course is fun.  Then Judy and I go back to the scrap room and our Sweet Baby Girl is going to be a Teachers Assistant for a teacher. 

For those of you who don't scrap, the room in which we scrap is set up with 50+ tables for 4.  Some are reserved, some are not.  The Expo provides two cricut expression II machines and a Kodak printer/scanner where we can all print our 4x6 prints for free, they provide the paper.  They also provide a couple large Xyron adhesive stations for free.  This year we are so excited because we bringing our own power.  Which means we can plug any of our toools into this power cone.  We are taking our own Cricut Expression, Slice, Embossing Guns, iPods, etc.

Saturday is another 8am to 12 pm.  More shopping and more cropping.  Saturday night is a themed evening.  This year it's dress in your favorite sports team clothes.  We aren't yet sure if we are going to participate.  On this night there are contests, prizes and dance offs.

Personally, I going to be scrapping the Wedding of Jusin and Courtney Spink from July 17, 2009.  I have 125 pictures, one 12 x 12 album and more embellishments than I could ever use.  Goood thing there is shopping just in case I don't have that one think I can't live without.

God's Plan

On Tuesday, my cousin Diane, posted this picture on my Facebook page:

My sister and I have this phrase we frequently use after a Sunday Sermon.  We say that Pastor Doug must be hanging out in our living rooms, because how else would he know what's going on in our homes?  My cousin posts this picture when it is exactly what I need to hear.  When I go to Bible Study on Friday's and see a friend of my parents from 30 years ago sitting two seats away from me. 

When I am reading  Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”  And it is so exactly what I needed to hear, I print it out and tape it to my pantry in November 2011.  When this verse is repeated to me in Sunday's service, 4/29/12.

Clearing out Craftroom

So for the past two months now, I have been cleaning out my bonus room AKA The Craft Room.  I wish I had a before picture of this shot.  The walls were full of metal boards with all kinds of craft stuff stuck to them.  Each side of the room was lined with metal racks and tables.  This was my desk to craft at UNLESS our Sweet Baby Girl joined us, then it was hers :}

 

 

 

Here is the other end of the room.  The fireplace has never been lit since the day this house was built. There were two 4 x 8 foldable tables on this side where Judy and I sat to craft.  A card table with all of our die-cutters on it along with more stuff on the walls.  My puppies love to sit on the top of this sofa and be on the lookout :}

 

 

This bonus room is the size of a three car garage.  Yet, I still had to resort to storing tools, embellishments, paper and other stuff in the three closets upstairs.  It's kinda weird now to have just my clothes in the walk-in closet.  We have lived here six years and I would guess that I have spent at least five of those years in this room.  It has a 56" television, a station to dock my ipod and lots and lots of "stuff".  The only thing it's missing is a refrigerator !!

I think back to 1999 when my sister and I began scrapbooking and could store all of our "stuff" behind her couch in her living room (with no peeking above the couch).  From there we moved to Huntington Beach where I had a standard size bedroom with a few shelves, one table and three dressers to store my "stuff" in.  Believe me, it was a tight fit !! 

From there we moved to La Quinta, California where we built a lovely 2,800 ft. sq. home, where I had no craft room and basically did not craft.  We only lived in this beautiful custom home for 359 days.  From there we moved to Temecula, where I had a bonus room that was twice the size of the one I have now.  We had a designer plan the room with bookcases, cabinets, sewing tables, computer station and hardwood floors.  Then we moved again.

We moved to Yorba Linda.  I should say we moved to Yorba Linda and I kicked and whined all the way here.  I did not want to live in Yorba Linda for several reasons.  Then the hubby bought this house, which I did not want either, but the bonus room was an easy sell.  We have been in this house for six years.  In our 17.5 years of marriage, this is the longest time we have resided in the same house.

I am going to go in search of the bonus room when it was filled to the brim with heavenly scrapbooking supplies.  And when I do, I'll share it with you!

Spring Tea

On Sunday, April 29, 2012, our church held a Spring Tea for Mother's, Daughter's, Sister's, Friend's.  I hosted a table of eight.  My sister Judy helped me put the table together and my Niece Courtney was beyond helpful.  There was plenty of food and this wonderful Lemon Loaf for dessert.

I invited my friend Erika Lopez for the first time, to any church function.  She said she had fun but ... (this is just the way Erika is, she is a no frills, you get what you see, kind of gal).

We met new people and made a few new friends.  Thanks to Brenda Green and her team of hostesses for a delightful afternoon.  We gathered from 12:00 - 2:00, including entertainment.
